We all want our children to grow up as confident individuals - happy to join in with games and sport in the playgound and in the park - in the hopes that they will lead an active and healthy life in the future. By providing a fun, high quality programme, Playball has engaged thousands of children around the globe and set them off on the road to confident sports participation. Not only do we deliver age-appropriate physical programmes for 2-9 year olds, but we embrace the whole child - taking into account the emotional, social and cognitive state of each individual.
The minute a child feels confident, that's when they start to learn and enjoy. Our team is here to do just that! Our experienced instructors will have your children begging for more as they experience success with sport and movement in a positive way!

“At the most basic level, providing children with many experiences involving fundamental motor skills is important. Fundamental skills include locomotor skills such as running, jumping, hopping; manipulation skills, such as throwing, catching, striking and kicking. Experience with these fundamental skills is essential for the later development of more specific sport skills.” (R. Magill, D. Anderson, 1996)
“No child should be expected to successfully compete in a sport without first achieving a certain level of competence in the components of that sport.” (R. Magill, D. Anderson, 1996)
“For children under eight, the emphasis in organized programs should be exclusively on individual skill development. Competition is generally irrelevant to the experiences of participants this age.” (Jay Coakley, 1988 – When Should Children Begin Competing? A Sociological Perspective)
Two Can Do (2 years) - We are ready to leave the care giver and start a new chapter of independence. We enjoy discovering what our own bodies can do, what other friends can do and exploring the wider world around us through movement. Everything we do helps us grow stronger and work towards our essential physical milestones.
Watch me @ 3 (3 years) - We happily participate independently. We have great fun exploring how many ways we can hit, kick, catch and throw in a friendly and supportive environment. We learn how to take turns and interact well with our instructor and our friends in the class. We are starting to feel brave and want to show everyone how well we can perform.
Dinkies (4 years) - We're beginning to show our teacher and friends how we can manipulate a ball with our feet, with a hockey stick or a bat. We can balance a bean bag confidently on our heads whilst sitting down and standing up. We are also able to accomplish tasks in a variety of different ways - like throwing under arm or over arm. We play confidently with big balls and small balls, as well as manipulate objects such as hoops, tennis bats and hockey sticks.
Preps (5-6 years) - We are starting to bring all the individual sports skills together. Amongst other skills, we find it increasingly easy to bounce a ball confidently up to a short hoop and shoot! We are learning to work together with our friends to achieve a common goal and are starting to take on small leadership roles. Playing small sided sports games is very exciting and we are learning how to win and lose graciously.
Players (7-9 years) - We love sport and are learning how to play the mini games for hockey, tennis, cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, baseball and rugby. From years of doing Playball, we are confident handling any type of ball and are quickly able to adapt to new rules and new sports. We understand the importance of working as a team and enjoy the challenge of being a captain once in a while. We show good manners at all times and are not allowed to argue with the umpire.
Playball can help your child settle into new social environments. If your child is slightly anxious about joing a new group, remember, it's all a part of growing up and becoming independent - that's what our Playball programme focuses on - LIFE SKILLS! Parents are welcome to bring their child along to a FREE lesson to see why it's the UK's fastest growing kids sports programme. It always helps to bring a friend to play with! Please register your child prior to the lesson so that I can accommodate them.
We offer Playball classes at our Playball Centres and at various participating schools in Richmond.
